Etisalat has said it had more subscribers porting into its network and few porting out of its network, when compared with other telecoms network, since Mobile Number Portability (MNP) scheme was introduced on April 22, 2013.
Acting Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Matthew Willsher, who gave the information at a recent press briefing in Lagos, said the company's innovativeness earned it the advantage of having the highest subscriber number that ported into its network.
Willsher disclosed that the strength of his company is not seen in the number of those porting to it alone but also in its innovativeness as a telecommunications company.
"A crop of elite and discerning telephone subscribers in Nigeria are taking advantage of the mobile number portability policy, to avail themselves of quality and value by porting their mobile numbers to the Etisalat network," he said.
According to the company, Publisher, Today’s Woman, Adesuwa Oyenokwe, famous broadcaster, Soni Irabor, celebrity photographer Obi Somto and renowned fashion designer, Mai Atafo led the pack of some well informed and highly placed Nigerians who switched their telephone numbers to the Etisalat network recently.
Oyenokwe is thrilled by the data service on the Etisalat network, since she ported.
“I am in the publishing business and time is never on my side. The speed of the data service on the Etisalat network is simply amazing, and that is what prompted me to port to Etisalat network,” Oyenokwe said.
According to Irabor, “As a business man, I need to stay constantly in touch with multiple business stakeholders. On the Etisalat network I am able to make local and international calls without any interruption.”
Willsher said he is happy at the turn of events but is not surprised because his company not only strategised for it but is also committed to sustain the development.
The Nigerian Communications Commission introduced the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service in April 2013, allowing subscribers the freedom to move their telephone numbers to any network they prefer while retaining their phone numbers
