Nigeria and Chelsea FC young defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has announced his return to Middlesbrough on loan for another season.
Omeruo who had a wonderful outing at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, partnering Joseph Yobo in Super Eagles’ central defence role, yesterday posted on his Instagram page that holiday was over and his return to Middlesbrough.
"Holiday is finished. Almost time for work again. Happy to be re-joining Boro for a new season," announced the defender on his Instagram account.
Omeruo was key to Boro last season and speculations have been rife that Middlesbrough boss, Aitor Karanka, who was Jose Mourinho's assistant at Real Madrid was keen to have the Nigerian defender back either on loan or on permanent basis.
The Super Eagles player made 14 appearances for the Championship side after joining on loan for the second half of last season.
The 20-year-old lad can play as a centre-back or right-back.
Omeruo’s teammate and colleague in Eagles back-four line up, Juwon Oshaniwa also at the weekend revealed his motivation for the good outing he posted at Brazil 2014.
He said he was moved to prove critics of his inclusion in Stephen Keshi’s 23-man World Cup list wrong
Oshaniwa eventually became the Super Eagles’ first choice in the left-back position in Brazil following injury to AS Monaco’s Elderson Echiejile, which ruled him out of the tournament.
The 23-year-old played all four matches as Nigeria reached the second round for the first time in 16 years.
He stated that self-belief was responsible for his commendable performance as responsibility beckoned on him following Echiejile’s blackout.
"It feels good and also a great achievement putting smiles on the faces of critics. Well, I felt so bad that my friend (Echiejile) was ruled out of the competition despite his contributions to the team’s qualification for the tournament,” Oshaniwa told Goal.
"Knowing that responsibility of replacing him beckoned on me, I had to put myself together, take charge to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians," observed the Ashdod FC of Israel defender.
While admitting that his good outing at Brazil 2014 has brought him several offers from European clubs, he was categorical in stating that he is not in a hurry.
Oshaniwa also revealed that he is not in a hurry to move to another club not unmindful of several offers coming from other European clubs.
"For every player on earth, there is always a desire for a greener pasture and I can tell you that mine is not an exception. Sure, I have received some offers from other clubs and that I won’t disclose until everything materializes,” he concluded.
