As a way of motivation, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, on Sunday, issued estacode, air tickets and other travelling documents to over 50 party faithful, including the chairmen of the party in the 23 local government areas of the state and other stakeholders, to travel to Brazil and cheer the Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, to success in the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Addressing the chairmen and party faithful at an emergency meeting to intimate them on the party’s plan, state chairman of PDP, Felix Obuah, told them that the sponsorship was the exhibition of the interest of the welfare of party members by the party.
Obuah said the gesture was a result of an appeal made to the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, who he described as ‘’our mentor, leader and financier who has consistently been a live wire for our party’’, for sponsorship of our members to Brazil to boost Super Eagles’ morale at the tournament.
“The leader obliged us and with the approval of the President. This is the first of its kind in the history not just of Rivers State but also of Nigeria when all the chairmen of the a party in the 23 local government in a state is sponsored for a national duty to cheer up a national team in a World Cup.”
‘’This is to let our people know that the PDP has all it takes to build this state. We are not using state government money but our own money. We have all it takes to develop the 23 local government areas of the state. By next World Cup, we shall extend this world cup sponsorship privilege to members of the media’’, announced.
In his admonishment, Wike, while advising them, reminded them that it was important that the make good use of the opportunity the travel provided them with the approval of the President.
